I was born upon the prairie, where the wind blew free and there was nothing to break the light of the sun.

I was born where there were no enclosures and where everything drew a free breath.

About Dr. Bruce

Raven Bruce was born on the lower east side of Manhattan into a world with no end of curiosities. She attended parochial school in the city where she played forts and fed PPJ sandwiches to the neighborhood strays.

Raven completed her Doctoral work in Clinical Psychology at the California School of Professional Psychology, San Francisco, CA (1996) with an emphasis on coping styles and resilience studies. She began to look deeply at the ways in which people rose above their suffering to create meaningful, passion-filled lives.

Her clinical work focused on therapy with people in crisis: people facing cancer and AIDS diagnoses, inner city kids at -risk, homeless women and people in the early stages of trauma recovery. Her dissertation examined the efficacy of therapeutic interventions with people in crisis. As part of her dissertation, Raven authored an interactive coping skills workbook for women newly diagnosed with HIV and Cancer.

In 1996, Raven moved to Vermont with her dog and worked towards Vermont Licensure. She started a psychotherapy practice in the evenings while working for the next five years as a Psychologist and Case Manager at a residential psychiatric facility.

After her son was born in 2000, she left her day job and began work full -time in her psychotherapy practice.

Raven's therapeutic interest is to incorporate the tenets of mindfulness practice into psychotherapy. Her practical, down-to-earth approach emphasizes inherent human resilience and the acquisition of practical coping tools to better manage life difficulties. Her specialties include work with:

  • trauma
  • depression /emptyness
  • anxiety
  • grief and loss
  • relationship suffering
  • identity issues
  • the search for meaning and passion
